This family home is located in the newly developed neighborhood of Central Park, CO, a modern community distinguished by its unique blend of contemporary designs and classic architecture, and featured a beautiful elevated deck in need of privacy. The homes in this area have small yards that open to the alleys where activity and traffic are a constant, from children playing to through traffic and garbage pickup.
These homeowners sought to enhance and customize their backyard deck with increased privacy and protection from the elements. Despite the beauty and functionality of their backyard deck, the lack of privacy from neighbors and the alley became a significant concern. The homeowners saw the potential for a pergola with screens on all sides to transform their outdoor area into a secluded retreat, allowing them to enjoy the outdoors comfortably away from the bustling activity of the alley and protected from wind, rain, and snow.

CHALLENGE:
One specific request for this project was the homeowners’ desire for the motorized screens to be recessed, concealing the cassette (roller) from view. This required meticulous planning and design to accommodate the hidden rollers without compromising the functionality of the screens or the structural integrity of the pergola. Achieving this level of integration demanded innovative solutions and precision engineering to ensure that the screens would operate smoothly and effectively, providing the desired privacy and protection without sacrificing the visual appeal of the outdoor space.
SOLUTION
Pivot 6
StruXure Denver installed the Pivot 6 pergola in a 28’ x 12’ 6” design in three sections. To seamlessly integrate the motorized screens with the pergola, a unique structural adaptation was necessary. The design incorporated a concealed 9-inch cavity within the pergola’s framework, specifically engineered to accommodate the screen rollers. This innovative solution allowed the screens to be discreetly housed within the pergola itself, emerging from a subtle slot that aligns with the deck’s railing, ensuring a seamless aesthetic. The design meticulously conceals the mechanism, elegantly capped at both ends for a polished finish. The screens, mounted just beyond the railing, extend directly to the deck floor, offering complete coverage and enhancing the privacy and usability of the outdoor space without compromising on design. This architectural ingenuity ensures that the screens remain invisible when retracted, preserving the pergola’s modern lines and aesthetic integrity.
The all-louvered roof system of the Pivot 6 is equipped with a remote to open or close and control the angle of the louvers, offering flexibility in light and airflow. Additional pergola enhancements include lighting, fans, and heaters to provide a comfortable outdoor living space perfectly tailored to the homeowners’ desire for privacy and style.
