OVERVIEW:
The retired owners of this beautiful home in Westminster were in need of a pergola to provide shade over their upper-level deck. Spending time outdoors was an important part of their lifestyle, and this space was crucial when having the grandkids over two to three times per week. The intense Colorado sun on this southwest-facing deck, however, left it unbearable to spend much time on the outdoor deck as it was too hot and sunny. They wanted to utilize the space better and be able to have crafts, lunches, and dinners outdoors when the grandchildren were visiting and when entertaining. Extending their outdoor living space onto this beautiful deck was important to them.

CHALLENGE:
There were a couple of challenges with this pergola installation in Westminster, as the home was part of a homeowner’s association, and the HOA had very stringent rules. Originally, only a wooden pergola was allowed as they were under the impression that a metal pergola would not comply with the design outlines. Our knowledgeable team, however, presented a case to the HOA and explained how StruXure Denver’s extruded aluminum is better than metal because it will not rust and is better than wood, which would not provide a long-term solution. Outdoor wooden structures require extensive maintenance and staining and will eventually fall into disrepair. The powder-coated aluminum system with StruXure Denver pergolas will last a lifetime and require very little to no maintenance. The HOA agreed, and we proceeded with the design of this complex upper-story deck installation.
This pergola had to be fit within a 3-sided patio with our posts installed right into the three large brick columns on one side of the upper story patio. The deck itself and the brick columns extended past the walls on each side. We designed the pergola posts to be footed right into the brick columns for an aesthetic appearance. This provided nice, clean lines centered with the existing columns with the posts and brick columns integrated.
SOLUTION
The Pivot 6 was installed with two zones in Adobe color with white louvers to match the house perfectly. Because the homeowners value their outdoor space and time, we also installed screens, heaters, fans, and lights to make this truly a three-season room for them. The patented, integrated gutter system was connected to a matching downspout to divert all rainwater away from the upper deck and pergola system.
The Pivot 6 always comes with a remote control for the smart louvered roof, and this one in Westminster also included automatic rain sensors to close completely to protect the outdoor patio furniture and belongings during a downpour.
