Busey Brews, a local brewery in Nederland, CO, built a unique outdoor patio facing a picturesque stream that runs through the town. The elevated patio was supported by a steel frame structure and topped with solar panels. The patio provided a great space for guests, with seating around the open window perimeter and a large fireplace in the center. The patio provided the desired outdoor feel, although it lacked protection from the wide open windows on all sides, leaving it vulnerable to the elements.
The brewery wanted to maintain the outdoor patio feel while adding roller screens around the perimeter to protect against the valley’s fierce winds. They required motorized screens that could operate individually, allowing for flexibility in response to changing weather conditions. Motorized screens were the perfect solution to protect against wind and sun while preserving the outdoor ambiance.

CHALLENGE:
One of the greatest challenges facing this commercial screen installation was due to the patio’s height of 30 feet off the ground, necessitating the use of lifts for installation. Additionally, some modifications to the steel framing were required to accommodate the new screens. Special steel and additional posts had to be installed to support the tracks and rails for the screens, ensuring stability and smooth operation in the high-wind environment.
SOLUTION
StruXure Denver installed 95 Solar Screens at Busey Brews, crafted from durable PVC-coated polyester synthetic fabric to withstand Colorado’s harsh mountain climate. These screens are specifically designed to block up to 95% of the sun’s UV rays, provide 5% airflow, and offer superior protection against wind, sun, and insects. The chosen color, Galaxy Black, ensures high visibility while seamlessly blending with the brewery’s aesthetic, preserving the natural beauty of the outdoor space. The solar screens from Progressive Screens are engineered to deliver exceptional sunlight protection, safeguarding patrons and the facility by blocking up to 97% of harmful UV rays. This keeps the patio cooler, prevents furnishings from fading, and reduces heat and glare. The solar mesh effectively keeps insects out, enhancing the comfort of the outdoor area. This ensures an enjoyable experience free from eye strain and annoying glare on outdoor TV screens or mobile devices.
One of the standout features of these screens is their versatility. Unlike static screens, the motorized 95 Solar Screens can be easily slid into place when needed and retracted to enjoy unencumbered views when the weather is favorable. The motorized screens are controlled via the MyLink Trifold app, which allows for quick and convenient adjustments, even in the middle of the night if unexpected weather conditions arise. This cutting-edge technology ensures that the screens perform consistently, offering protection from harsh glare, wind, and UV rays while maintaining the outdoor patio feel patrons love.
