How to Maintain A StruXure Pergola
Proper care and maintenance are essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your StruXure pergola. Follow these guidelines to keep your outdoor structure in excellent condition!
Regular Cleaning
- Routine Maintenance: Clean your pergola at least once a year, or more frequently if dirt and debris accumulate. Start by using a soft-bristle brush or dry cloth to remove loose debris from both the top and underside of the pergola, paying special attention to hard-to-reach areas.
- Washing: After removing loose debris, wash the pergola with a mild cleaning solution. Mix detergent, trisodium phosphate powder, and water, and apply it using a soft sponge, cloth, or soft-bristled brush. Scrub gently to prevent surface damage. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose to remove all cleaning solution residues, preventing streaking or spotting.
Gutter and Downspout Maintenance
For StruXure pergolas equipped with gutters and downspouts, it’s crucial to keep them clear of leaves and debris to ensure proper drainage and prevent potential damage:
- Inspection: Regularly inspect gutters and downspouts for blockages.
- Cleaning: If blockages are found, use a long, flexible brush or a plumber’s snake to carefully dislodge debris.
Addressing Mildew and Stubborn Stains
Environmental factors can lead to mildew and other marks on your pergola:
- Mildew Removal: To remove mildew, mix one cup of bleach with one gallon of water or use a mixture of warm water and oxygen bleach. Apply gently with a soft brush to affected areas.
- Stubborn Stains: For tough stains like tar or caulking compounds, start by manually removing as much as possible using appropriate tools. For residual stains, apply a chemical solvent such as Motsenbocker’s Lift Off, following the manufacturer’s instructions. After treatment, rinse the area thoroughly with water to remove any solvent residue.
Low-Pressure Power Washing
If you choose to use a pressure washer:
- Settings: Keep the pressure at the lowest setting (1500-2000 PSI) and maintain at least a foot of distance from the pergola’s surface to protect the structure.
- Nozzle: Use a 25-degree nozzle (the green nozzle) for effective cleaning without harming the pergola.
- Test Area: Before full application, test the pressure washer on a small, inconspicuous area to ensure it does not damage the pergola’s surface.
Professional Maintenance Services
For additional assurance, StruXure offers an optional maintenance program, StruXure Care, where certified dealers provide thorough inspections, light pressure washing, and lubrication of track pins. This service helps keep your system looking and functioning like new year after year.
By adhering to these maintenance practices, you can ensure that your StruXure pergola remains a beautiful and functional centerpiece of your outdoor space for years to come.

Residential Pergola Morning Star Way, Castle Rock, CO 80108
Located in Castle Rock, CO, between Denver and Colorado Springs, this home belonged to a doctor and his wife who loved entertaining and watching football outdoors. Their vision was to create a luxurious, covered outdoor space that would allow them to host guests comfortably throughout the year. However, the existing structure was deteriorating and needed to be replaced. StruXure Denver was brought in to design and install a custom pergola system that would enhance their outdoor living experience while integrating seamlessly with the home’s architecture.
Residential Pergola Meade Ct, Westminster, CO 80031
The deck transformation and pergola installation presented multiple complexities, starting with the home’s high windows and low soffits, which left no room to mount the pergola to the roof. This meant that the louvers would not operate correctly to their full 175° range without custom engineering.
Residential Pergola Longview Dr, Broomfield, CO 80023
This west-facing patio was fully exposed to the intense setting sun, making it unbearably hot and uncomfortable during the afternoons and evenings. The homeowner sought to create a shaded, functional outdoor space beyond the original patio. StruXure Denver collaborated with a deck builder to design and construct a fully integrated pergola and deck, transforming the unusable area into a cohesive, inviting outdoor living space.
